Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey\u00a0Lavrov and UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de\u00a0Mistura stressed support to Astana meeting on the\u00a0crisis in Syria as a factor which may contribute\u00a0to speeding up the political process in Syria\u00a0through Geneva talks.<\/p>\n
During his meeting with De Mistura in Moscow on\u00a0Thursday, Lavrov said that ” Russia insists on\u00a0joining representatives of the moderate opposition\u00a0in Geneva talks,” reiterating Moscow’s commitment\u00a0to continue efforts to extend the cessation of
\nhostilities agreement to include all the Syrian\u00a0territories.<\/p>\n
De Mistura, in turn, stressed that the Astana\u00a0meeting will contribute to speeding up the\u00a0political process in Syria, affirming the UN\u00a0support to the efforts of Russia, Iran and Turkey\u00a0in the context of the political settlement in\u00a0Syria.<\/p>\n
The UN diplomat also stated that the delegates\u00a0would start arriving in Geneva on February 20 to\u00a0hold bilateral meetings with the UN side prior to\u00a0launching the official talks, emphasizing the need\u00a0for doubling efforts to promote the political\u00a0process in Syria.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the UN Security Council\u00a0resolution No. 2254 is the only document that\u00a0determines outlets of settling the crisis in\u00a0Syria.<\/p>\n
