New York, SANA- UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan\u00a0de Mistura called for holding new round of UN-backed intra-Syrian talks in Geneva on March 23.<\/p>\n
“Syria’s government and opposition groups are\u00a0invited to resume peace talks in Geneva on March\u00a023,” the UN envoy said in a press conference in\u00a0New York on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
” Talks will be indirect and will focus on\u00a0governance, constitutional process, elections and\u00a0counter-terrorism and there may also be\u00a0discussions on reconstruction,” De Mistura added.<\/p>\n
The UN Envoy pointed out that he briefed the UN\u00a0Security Council, in a closed door meeting, on the\u00a0outcomes of the fourth round of the intra-Syrian\u00a0dialogue, recently held in Geneva, calling on the\u00a0participants in Astana and the sponsoring sides to
\nenhance the cessation of hostilities in Syria.<\/p>\n
The fourth round of UN-backed intra-Syrian talks\u00a0concluded in Geneva on Match 3rd with the\u00a0participation of the Syrian government delegation\u00a0and opposition delegations.<\/p>\n
The Kazakh capital of Astana hosted two meetings\u00a0on the crisis in Syria; the first meeting was held\u00a0on January 23-24 as its final statement stressed\u00a0commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence\u00a0and territorial unity, while the second meeting
\nwhich was held on February 16 reiterated the need\u00a0for enhancing the cessation of hostilities in the\u00a0country.<\/p>\n
