Cairo\/New York, SANA \u2013 Egypt welcomed the agreement on the Russian memorandum on creating de-escalation zones in Syria that was signed by the guarantor countries of the cessation of hostilities in the course of the Astana 4 meeting.<\/p>\n
A statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Egypt praised all efforts to secure a cessation of hostilities in all Syrian territories, an immediate halt of violence and improvement of humanitarian situation.<\/p>\n
The statement also stressed the need to reach a political solution to the crisis that preserves the territorial integrity and independence of Syria and eliminates the presence of terrorist organizations in the country.<\/p>\n
In a relevant context, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his satisfaction with the Russian memorandum on the creating of de-escalation zones in Syria that was reached during the 4th Astana meeting in the Kazakh capital.<\/p>\n
Guterres was “encouraged by the agreement today in Astana, Kazakhstan, by guarantor countries Iran, Russia and Turkey to de-escalate violence in key areas in Syria,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric was quoted as saying in a statement released by the UN.<\/p>\n
The UN chief believes it is \u201ccrucial to see this agreement actually improve the lives of Syrians,” he noted.<\/p>\n
“The Secretary-General welcomes the commitments to ceasing the use of all weapons, particularly aerial assets; to rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access; and to creating conditions for the delivery of medical aid and meeting civilians\u2019 basic needs,\u201d Dujarric said.<\/p>\n
