Moscow, SANA- Chief of Russian General Staff\u00a0Valery Gerasimov and US counterpart Joseph Dunford\u00a0confirmed, during a phone call, the sides’\u00a0readiness to fully restore the memorandum on\u00a0ensuring safety and preventing incidents in the\u00a0airspace of Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n
The Ministry said in a statement quoted by Russia\u00a0Today website that there was a confirmation of\u00a0the readiness to resume, in full volume, the\u00a0implementation by the parties of the obligations
\nunder the Russian-American Memorandum on ensuring\u00a0safety and prevention of incidents in the airspace\u00a0of Syria.<\/p>\n
Russia suspended the memorandum after the US\u00a0launched Tomahawk missiles at al-Shairat airbase\u00a0in Syria last month as Moscow considered the\u00a0attack to have been an act of international
\naggression. The document is meant to prevent\u00a0possible adverse encounters between American and\u00a0Russian warplanes over Syria.<\/p>\n
The ministry said the officials had also discussed\u00a0additional measures to prevent conflict\u00a0situations during joint operations against ISIS\u00a0and Jabhat Al-Nusra, the two groups designated by\u00a0the UN as terrorists operating in Syria.<\/p>\n
