Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed on Wednesday that the bombing of one of the positions of the Syrian army on al-Tanf road in the eastern countryside of Homs by the so-called “international coalition” led by the US is a violation of international law.<\/p>\n
In a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart Alfonso Dastis in Moscow, Lavrov stressed Russia’s non-recognition of the \u201cde-confliction zones\u201d that the United States is trying to impose in Syria unilaterally.<\/p>\n
Lavrov said Russia, Turkey and Iran have signed a deal, which has been endorsed by the UN Security Council, to establish so-called \u201cde-escalation zones\u201d in several parts of Syria.\u00a0Damascus agreed to this approach and the exact borders and mechanisms for observing a truce inside those zones are currently being negotiated.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis approach was agreed to by Syria. We consider illegitimate any unilateral declaration of \u2018de-confliction zones\u2019 not endorsed by Damascus. We hope the coalition will adhere to the agreement it has reached with us, which states that the de-escalation zones must be agreed to in detail by all stakeholders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
