{"id":13603,"date":"2014-09-21T07:40:07","date_gmt":"2014-09-21T04:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/?p=13603"},"modified":"2014-09-21T14:16:16","modified_gmt":"2014-09-21T11:16:16","slug":"13603","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/?p=13603","title":{"rendered":"UN Security Council condemns attacks launched by terrorist organizations in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon as major threat to the region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York, SANA-UN Security Council called for enhancing and expanding support to Iraq in the face of so-called the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS) and the armed organizations affiliated with it.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement adopted by the Council during a ministerial meeting on Iraq held on Friday with the participation of forty countries, the Council condemned &#8220;The attacks launched by terrorist organizations in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon including the ISIS,&#8221; affirming that this large-scale attack is a major threat to the region.<\/p>\n<p>Syria&#8217;s Permanent Representative to the United\u00a0Nations Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said &#8220;Some of the\u00a0interposition deviated from the provision under\u00a0consideration, which is the situation in Iraq, as it\u00a0is stated in the agenda, talking about the\u00a0situation in Syria in a wrong and provocative way\u00a0which is not suitable at all, particularly with\u00a0regards to combating the ISIS.&#8221; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-13628\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/161.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"381\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/161.jpg 381w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/161-150x79.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/161-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 381px) 100vw, 381px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a statement during the meeting, al-Jaafari\u00a0added &#8220;I have listened carefully to the opening\u00a0statement delivered by US Secretary of State John\u00a0Kerry who chaired the session, and I found in its\u00a0content a responsible and balanced language that\u00a0is up to the importance of what is taking place in\u00a0Iraq at the hands of the ISIS and other terrorist\u00a0organizations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Al-Jaafari indicated that some of the\u00a0deliberations regrettably sought to distract the\u00a0attention from the main issue discussed during the\u00a0session which is helping the Iraqi and Syrian\u00a0governments and peoples confront the ISIS and\u00a0Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations\u00a0affiliated with them according to Resolution No.\u00a02170.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Syrian government is a key part of combating\u00a0the terrorism of the ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra,&#8221; al-Jaafari stressed, adding &#8221; We have worked alone in Syria on combating this terrorism over the past three years, and we have always insisted on the importance of combating it and halting its financing and armament or training its members&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Jaafari indicated that Syria is very pleased\u00a0that the international community acknowledged the\u00a0existence of terrorism which is backed by some\u00a0governments and mass media and that there are\u00a0camps for training terrorists, some of which are\u00a0in Syria&#8217;s neighboring countries, adding that the\u00a0identity of those who back terrorism is\u00a0intentionally hidden.<\/p>\n<p>He affirmed that combating terrorism must be done\u00a0in the framework of the UN charter and the\u00a0principles of the international law, on top of\u00a0which respecting the sovereignty of the countries\u00a0which definitely requires previous coordination\u00a0with the Syrian government in any serious effort\u00a0to combat terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Facing terrorism in an effective way requires\u00a0facing its mental sources which have been built on\u00a0the Saudi Wahhabi mentality that has been a main\u00a0source of extremism in the Islamic and Arab\u00a0world,&#8221; Al-Jaafari said. Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari\u00a0underlined the importance of fighting terrorism as\u00a0an international epidemic; calling for more\u00a0cooperation among all countries to achieve this\u00a0goal as the danger of terrorism doesn&#8217;t only threaten Iraq and Syria, but the region and the\u00a0world.<\/p>\n<p>He said &#8220;We believe that the main responsibility\u00a0to fight the ISIS and other terrorist\u00a0organizations in Iraq is our responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>However, we require the support of friendly\u00a0countries in providing air cover,&#8221; he said. He underlined the necessity of obliging all\u00a0countries with resolution No. 2170 of the Security\u00a0Council.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s Permanent Representative at the UN Vitaly\u00a0Churkin said that any airstrike against the\u00a0terrorist organization ISIS on Syrian territories\u00a0without coordination with the Syrian government\u00a0would constitute a serious violation of the basic\u00a0principles of international law and may have\u00a0devastating effects on the situation in Syria,\u00a0including the humanitarian situation.<\/p>\n<p>Churkin stressed that confronting ISIS or al-Nusra\u00a0Front must be carried out according to the\u00a0principles of the UN, international law, and full\u00a0cooperation with the region&#8217;s countries,\u00a0asserting that any other steps would be illegal\u00a0and would undermine regional peace and stability.<\/p>\n<p>Permanent Representative of China to the UN Liu Jieyi, said that the new terrorist threat represented by ISIS on the International peace and security raises deep concern. He called on the international community to support Iraq in the face of terrorism and achieve the political reconciliation which was started by forming new government.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese official demanded the international\u00a0community to respect sovereignty, independence and\u00a0territorial integrity of Iraq and other states in\u00a0the region, and commit to the principles of the UN\u00a0Charter and norms governing the international relations and to allow the United Nations and\u00a0Security Council to play their assumed role.<\/p>\n<p>While Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas\u00a0Araghchi said that ISIS organization is not a\u00a0state and not an Islamic but it is a terrorist\u00a0organization emerged from the womb of chaos backed\u00a0by a number of the region&#8217;s states and foreign\u00a0sides. &#8221; Any strategy to defeat terrorism must fully\u00a0comply with the international law standards and\u00a0principles and UN Charter regarding any military\u00a0action against the terrorists organizations\u00a0whether in Iraq or Syria&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>R. al-Jazaeri \/ Ghossoun \/ Mazen Eyoun<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York, SANA-UN Security Council called for enhancing and expanding support to Iraq in the face of so-called the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS) and the armed organizations affiliated with it.
