London, SANA-Britain officials called Teresa May\u2019s government to stop supporting terrorist organizations in Syria under the name of \u201copposition groups\u201d and to work towards finding a political solution to the crisis in it.<\/p>\n
The Independent Newspaper quoted that the\u00a0 Global Network for Syria, which includes peers from the Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats and also independents, has written to May demanding a change in the government\u2019s policy.<\/p>\n
The group has accused the government of funding \u201cso-called moderate armed opposition forces\u201d the \u201cvast majority\u201d of whom they claim are \u201cdominated by Jihadist militants\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Theresa May\u2019s foreign policy on Syria is \u201cprolonging suffering\u201d and is ensuring stabilization \u201cremains a distant possibility\u201d, according to the\u00a0 letter, which is signed by two former ambassadors to Syria, Lord Green of Deddington and Peter Ford.<\/p>\n
The signatories called on the government to lift sanctions, work for diplomatic solutions and allow the Syrian people to determine their own future.<\/p>\n
According to Ford, who served in Damascus from 2003 to 2006, the letter was looking to draw attention to current policies that he says have not worked.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe letter looks to draw attention to the risk of a new conflict, the pointlessness of continuing to apply sanctions to Syria when they haven\u2019t worked.<\/p>\n
He also warned of the attempts to undermine the Syrian government.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge the UK government to allow the people of Syria to decide their own future,\u201d said Baroness Cox, who also signed the letter.<\/p>\n
