Moscow, SANA A charity fund to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people has been established in the Russian capital of Moscow.<\/p>\n

The establishment of the fund was announced in a\u00a0special ceremony held Thursday evening with the\u00a0attendance of members of the Syrian community and\u00a0a number of Russian official and popular figures.<\/p>\n

“Today Russia and Syria stand at the forefront of\u00a0the struggle against the U.S arrogance and\u00a0international terrorism,” said the fund’s\u00a0founders, who include a number of Syrian\u00a0expatriates living in Russia and some of their\u00a0Russian friends.<\/p>\n

The fund, according to them, aim at backing the\u00a0Syrian people and providing humanitarian supplies\u00a0to needy people who have been forced to leave\u00a0their houses or\/and home areas and move to others\u00a0to flee the acts of the terrorist organizations\u00a0under the internationally-imposed terrorist war\u00a0launched against their homeland.<\/p>\n

Syria’s Ambassador in Moscow Riyad Haddad\u00a0delivered a speech at the opening of the ceremony\u00a0in which he hailed the positions which the Russian
\nleadership and people have taken towards Syria in\u00a0the face of the terrorist assault that has ravaged\u00a0it since 2011.<\/p>\n

He noted that thanks to the friendly atmosphere\u00a0amid which the Syrian expatriates are working in\u00a0Russia, the establishment of this charity fund has
\nbeen made possible.<\/p>\n

On Syria’s counterterrorism efforts, Haddad pointed out that his country is coordinating those efforts with its friends in Moscow, Tehran and Baghdad, highlighting that combating terrorism won’t work unless all countries abide by the international resolutions which provide for halting all forms of support to the terrorist organizations.<\/p>\n

Among the high-ranking Russian figures who\u00a0attended the ceremony were Deputy Foreign Minister\u00a0Mikhail Bogdanov, First Deputy Foreign Minister
\nand former Chairman of the Soviet-Syrian\u00a0Friendship Association Boris Pastukhov and\u00a0Representative of the Russian-Syrian Economic\u00a0Council Sergei Ostashin.<\/p>\n

“Our love for Syria and its great people makes us\u00a0share their suffering,” said Pastukhov, stressing\u00a0that no effort will be spared to support this\u00a0fund.<\/p>\n

For his part, Ostashin said the aim of the fund is\u00a0to prevent any economic blockade on Syria and\u00a0avoid “economic collapse”.<\/p>\n

Speaking to SANA correspondent in Moscow, Ostashin\u00a0noted that the external threats “have prompted us\u00a0to look for an economic basis that is able to\u00a0accommodate the Russian and Syrian capabilities”\u00a0to provide Syria with the necessary materials,\u00a0particularly food and medical items.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that efforts are underway to\u00a0implement Russian President Vladimir Putin’s\u00a0decision on developing cooperation between Syria\u00a0and Russia so as to embark on supplying materials\u00a0to Syria by the end of this year.<\/p>\n
