Damascus, SANA-Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham stressed the importance of enhancing parliamentary and diplomatic ties between Syria and Russia in the common interests of the two friendly countries.<\/p>\n

This came during the parliament speaker’s meeting with a Russian parliamentary delegation , headed by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov, that arrived in Damascus earlier Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Syrian-Russian relations are deep-rooted and based on solid ground, he affirmed.<\/p>\n

Al-Laham underscored the importance of implementing the UN Security Council resolutions 2170 and 2178 about taking the necessary measures to fight terrorism and dry out its sources.<\/p>\n

“The US-led coalition against terrorism is a mere publicity stunt, knowing that Russia and China have been excluded from it. Syria, which has been subject to terrorism for four years, has been excluded, too. ” Al-Laham said.<\/p>\n

Al-Laham hailed the role of Russia that has “restored equilibrium to international relations and stood up to American intransigence.”
\nSyria has come a long way in its democratic experience, constitution and laws, which have placed it in the league of democratic countries in the region, said al-Laham, citing the June 6 presidential elections and the transparency that marked them, compared to countries in the region which have never known any kind of elections.<\/p>\n

He affirmed that Syria rejects foreign dictates and intervention, making great sacrifices to preserve its sovereignty and unity.<\/p>\n

“Syria is enacting internal reforms that suit its interests and meet the needs of its people,” al-Laham said.<\/p>\n

Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov, who heads the delegation, relayed the Russian people’s solidarity with the Syrian people, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

Umakhanov slammed Western media that seeks to mislead public opinion about the situation in Syria.<\/p>\n

Syria’s grand Mufti: Syrians determined to achieve victory <\/span><\/p>\n

Syria’s Grand Mufti Dr. Ahmad Badr-Eddin Hassoun said the Syrian people are determined to achieve victory and defeat all conspiracies and challenges facing their sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Hassoun, during his meeting with the Russian delegation, hailed the stances of Russia in support of Syria against the war targeting it. “Syria is striding closer to victory,” he affirmed.<\/p>\n

Umakhanov, for his part, stressed Russia’s full support for Syria against terrorism, expressing trust in Syria’s imminent victory over conspiracies.<\/p>\n

Greek Orthodox Patriarchal Assistant Archbishop\u00a0Luca al-Khoury, who attended the meeting, hailed the national unity that binds the Syrian people, stressing the importance of conveying the true image about the situation in Syria.<\/p>\n

Russian delegation visits landmark cathedral in Damascus<\/span><\/p>\n

The Russian delegation visited cathedral of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate for Antioch and All the East at the Mariamite Cathedral in Damascus on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

Bishop Nicolas Baalbaki, Patriarchal Assistant of Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East John X Yazigi, said the Syrians are united in face of the plot which aims at undermining Syria’s role in confronting the Western-Zionist schemes in the region.<\/p>\n

In turn, head of the Russian delegation stressed the deeply-rooted relations between the two friendly peoples, affirming that the Russia support for the Syrian people will continue.<\/p>\n
