Moscow, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin\u00a0said Russia will continue providing support and assistance to Syria, Iraq\u00a0and other countries in the region in their efforts to confront terrorism.<\/p>\n
“The situation in Syria still raises serious\u00a0concern,” said Putin in an interview with the Turkish al-Anadolu news agency.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the major threat in Syria and\u00a0neighboring countries is that of the acts of ISIS and the other extremist\u00a0organizations which some western countries have placed bets on and\u00a0emboldened.<\/p>\n
Efforts to fight this terror threat, the Russian\u00a0President stressed, should be based on the international Security Council’s\u00a0resolutions and strictly compliant with the international law, particularly\u00a0the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal\u00a0affairs of states.<\/p>\n
These efforts, Putin said, must be carried out\u00a0transparently and without any “covert” agenda.<\/p>\n
Putin also reiterated his country’s stance calling\u00a0for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria by the Syrians\u00a0themselves and through an inter-Syrian national dialogue without\u00a0preconditions.<\/p>\n
President Putin affirmed that Russia will continue\u00a0doing whatever necessary to help the Syrian people overcome “the tragic\u00a0events” to which they are exposed and to reach a political solution.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the contacts Moscow is making with representatives of the Syrian government and the various opposition groups and the regional and international partners, including the Turks, aim at getting to solve the crisis in Syria.<\/p>\n
He asserted the need that all efforts of the forces of the Syrian society against the terrorist organizations be united so as to maintain Syria’s unity, sovereignty and independence.<\/p>\n
