The Hague, SANA – Director General of the Organization for\u00a0the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Ahmet Uzumcu\u00a0expressed the\u00a0organization’s\u00a0appreciation to the Syrian government for its constant constructive\u00a0cooperation.<\/p>\n
During a meeting with Deputy Foreign and Expatriates\u00a0Minister Fayssal Mikdad, held\u00a0on the sidelines of\u00a0the 19th Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons\u00a0Convention (CWC) in the Hague, \u00a0Uzumcu hailed\u00a0\u00a0the fundamental progress made over the past period\u00a0with regard to eliminating Syria’s chemical weapons, which he said constitutes a\u00a0“common success” for both Syria and the OPCW.<\/p>\n
Talks touched upon the positive developments related to eliminating the Syrian\u00a0chemical file, \u00a0with Mikdad\u00a0stressing that\u00a0it is time that the Syrian chemical\u00a0file no longer be viewed from a special perspective now that Syria has\u00a0fulfilled its obligations.<\/p>\n
He presented a review of the huge efforts which\u00a0Syria has exerted in the framework of implementing its commitments under\u00a0the CWC.<\/p>\n
While stressing that Syria should be treated as\u00a0any country that is a party to the CWC, Mikdad reiterated Damascus’s readiness\u00a0to continue cooperating with the OPCW.<\/p>\n
Concluding activities, Conference of the States Parties to CWC stresses importance that discussions remain non-politicized<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n The conference wrapped up activities\u00a0later on the day.
