Moscow, SANA_ Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that it was impossible to fight successfully terrorism on a territory of a sovereign state without a proper coordination of actions with the legitimate authorities of that state.<\/p>\n
” The United States should coordinate the fight against\u00a0the Islamic State \u00a0in\u00a0Syria and Iraq (ISIS) through\u00a0direct contacts with\u00a0the Syrian government,” Lavrov said in\u00a0an exclusive interview with\u00a0RIA Novosti on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t think there is a need for our mediation in contacts between Syria and the US,\u201d Lavrov said, adding that there were plenty of opportunities for direct contacts between the two sides.<\/p>\n
\u201cMoscow has called on Washington on numerous occasions to avoid ignoring \u00a0contacts with the Syrian government in the fight against the ISIS but it rejected that,” Lavrov said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe US has never saw Russia as\u00a0a direct participant of\u00a0the anti-ISIS coalition, which the US has created in\u00a0line with\u00a0its own rules and parameters without paying respect to\u00a0international law,\u201d Lavrov added.<\/p>\n
“Moreover, President Barack Obama has consistently labeled Russia as\u00a0a global threat similar to\u00a0ISIS and Ebola virus,\u201d Lavrov said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn light of\u00a0these facts, periodic calls by\u00a0other US officials \u2018to join efforts\u2019 in\u00a0the fight against\u00a0ISIS terrorists sound very unconvincing.\u201d The Minister concluded.<\/p>\n
