Damascus, SANA- On occasion of the New Year, a mass was held in Mariamite Cathedral of Damascus in Bab Touma, presided upon by Patriarch John X Yazigi, Bishop of Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All East.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Patriarch Yazigi delivered a sermon after the mass, during which he stressed the importance of learning the noble meanings of Jesus Christ\u2019s birth, referring that starting the new year with prayers comes as a translation of hopefulness that is planted within us by God, saying \u201cAs Christians, since the early history, we have been adhered to face all life difficulties, epidemics and wars\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yaziji added that we pray for Syria\u2019s peace and territorial integrity , for alleviating the impacts of destruction, in all its domains, in this country ,and we pray for Syria to return as it was, safe and peaceful.<\/p>\n

The Patriarch called on the International Community to immediately lift the economic measures and blockade against Syria,and also called upon Western states to end their terrorist war on our country.<\/p>\n
