{"id":23103,"date":"2014-12-27T10:42:08","date_gmt":"2014-12-27T08:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/?p=23103"},"modified":"2014-12-27T13:50:18","modified_gmt":"2014-12-27T11:50:18","slug":"isis-turning-christian-churches-in-syria-and-iraq-into-torture-chambers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/?p=23103","title":{"rendered":"ISIS turning Christian churches in Syria and Iraq into torture chambers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Washington, SANA-The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria &#8220;ISIS&#8221; is reportedly turning Christian churches in Syria and Iraq into torture chambers and selling artifacts from the churches on the black market, <em>The Washington Times <\/em>said Thursday in a report by Douglas Ernest.<\/p>\n<p>Back in July 2014, ISIS has set fire to a 1,800-year-old church in Iraq\u2019s second largest city of Mosul.<\/p>\n<p>The burning of the church is one of the series of destruction of Christian property in Mosul, which was taken by ISIS, along with other Iraqi territories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/syria-steeple-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-23122 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/syria-steeple--300x160.jpg\" alt=\"syria-steeple-\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/syria-steeple--300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/syria-steeple--150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/syria-steeple-.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cISIS has a stated goal to wipe out Christianity,\u201d Jay Sekulow, of the American Center for Law and Justice and the author of \u201cRise of ISIS: A Threat We Can\u2019t Ignore,\u201d told\u00a0Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Syria&#8217;s representative to the UN Bashar Ja&#8217;afari has noted earlier this month that Syria repeatedly reported the various acts committed by terrorist organizations \u2013 primarily ISIS and Jabhet al-Nusra \u2013 which include extracting and selling the petroleum which belongs to Syria and Iraq, stealing and trading in archeological artifacts, dismantling factories and transporting their machinery to Turkey, abduction and hostage-taking, and human trafficking of women and children.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/aleppo7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-23123 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/aleppo7-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"aleppo\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/aleppo7-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/aleppo7-150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/aleppo7.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why they are crucifying Christians \u2014 including children \u2014 destroying churches and selling artifacts. The fact is, this group will stop at nothing to raise funds for its terrorist mission,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>ISIS took over Iraq\u2019s second-largest city, Mosul, in June, which was also home to a large Christian population. The terrorist organization promptly destroyed the tomb of Jonah.<\/p>\n<p>The International Centre for the Study of Radicalization ranked Saudi Arabia the second among many countries in terms of sending terrorists to Syria.<\/p>\n<p>The London-based Centre estimated the total number of foreign fighters in Syria as between 11,000 and 12,000.<\/p>\n<p>In Sept. 2014, ISIS destroyed\u00a0 a 7th-century church and a historical mosque in Iraq\u2019s Tikrit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/tikrit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-23124 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/tikrit-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"tikrit\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/tikrit-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/tikrit-150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/tikrit.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>ISIS, also, destroyed the Armenian Genocide Memorial Church in Deir Ezzor, Syria\u2014considered the Auschwitz of the Armenian Genocide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to go through an area where they had set up a checkpoint,\u201d refugee Zaid Qreqosh Ishaq, 27, told The Associated Press July 22.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Islamic State group \u201casked us to get out of the car. We got out.
