New York, SANA- Syria\u2019s permanent representative to the UN, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that cooperation among countries of the South is a factor of integration in the efforts to achieve the internationally-adopted developmental goals, adding that it is one of the manifestations of solidarity among peoples on the bilateral and multilateral levels.<\/p>\n
In a speech during the general debate of the twentieth session of the High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation, which was held via video technology with the participation of a number of ministers, Sabbagh stressed the need for South-South cooperation to be based on the principles included in the final document of the Nairobi meeting, which are respect for state sovereignty, national ownership and equality ,non-interference in domestic affairs, putting an end to setting conditions or imposing dictates, and achieving mutual benefit.<\/p>\n
Sabbagh added that the spread of the Corona epidemic since the beginning of last year represented a global threat to public health and a serious challenge to all member states, and more to the countries of the south, and after more than a year and a half, human solidarity is still below the required level, whether with regard to cooperation to confront the repercussions of the epidemic or with regard to obtaining vaccines.<\/p>\n
