Damascus, SANA- The Central Bank of Syria (CBS)\u00a0announced its plan to appropriate $ 65 million to\u00a0be sold in market for commercial and non-commercial purposes during next February as part\u00a0of its unconventional intervention mechanism in\u00a0foreign currency market.<\/p>\n
During an intervention session held on Wednesday,\u00a0CBS Governor Adib Mayyaleh noted that CBS will\u00a0continue its policy which aims to meet the market\u00a0needs through banks and exchange companies for\u00a0curtailing the influence of parallel market.<\/p>\n
Mayyaleh affirmed that CBS will continue to take\u00a0all measures to remove the obstacles facing\u00a0merchants and industrialists in obtaining foreign\u00a0currency, instructing the exchange companies to\u00a0increase the number of beneficiaries from foreign\u00a0currencies earmarked to fund imports and guarantee\u00a0a sustained flow of foreign currency into the\u00a0market.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that foreign currency is obtainable\u00a0in all banks and licensed currency exchange\u00a0companies and is enough for the market needs,\u00a0adding that intervention sessions will continue in\u00a0the currency market in order to stabilize the SYP\u00a0exchange rate.<\/p>\n
Representatives of licensed currency exchange\u00a0companies said that exchange rates in parallel\u00a0market don’t reflect the reality of supply and\u00a0demand in market but rather the behavior of\u00a0speculators.<\/p>\n
