ISLAMABAD, SANA- At least 27 people were killed and 87 others injured in heavy monsoon rain-triggered flash floods and other rain-related accidents in the last 24 hours in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.<\/p>\n
According to a report released by the NDMA on Wednesday evening, the country’s southern Sindh province was the worst-hit region with 15 killed and 27 others injured, followed by the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which reported seven deaths.<\/p>\n
Moreover, 69,438 houses have been destroyed, the report added.<\/p>\n
The total death toll in Pakistan from this season’s monsoon rains since mid-June has risen to at least 1,191, along with 3,641 injured, the NDMA said.<\/p>\n
The NDMA said that 118,247 people have been rescued since the beginning of the crisis, adding that the total number of districts affected by the floods reached 80.<\/p>\n
Additionally, 1,106,359 houses, 5,063 km of road, 243 bridges and 173 shops have been destroyed, while an estimated 731,818 livestock have perished in the rains across the country, it said.<\/p>\n
Rescue and relief operations by the NDMA, other government organizations, volunteers and non-government organizations were underway in the flood-hit areas.<\/p>\n
