London – SANA – The British Newspaper \u201cThe Guardian\u201d revealed that the former head of the Mossad, Israel\u2019s foreign intelligence agency, Yossi Cohen, \u201cthreatened\u201d chief prosecutor of the international criminal court, Fatou Bensouda, in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes inquiry.<\/p>\n
The newspaper quoted several sources as saying that Cohen, who was one of the closest allies of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, personally led the Mossad\u2019s participation in a campaign that lasted nearly a decade to undermine the court, and his activities were acknowledged at a high level in this regard.<\/p>\n
The sources asserted that Bensouda informed a small group of senior ICC officials about Cohen\u2019s attempts to influence her on several occasions not to proceed with a criminal investigation before the International Court.<\/p>\n
The sources indicated that the Mossad obtained copies of the secret recordings of Bensouda\u2019s husband, and then Israeli officials tried to use these materials to defame the Prosecutor.<\/p>\n
