Berlin, SANA-The German Foreign Ministry has affirmed that lifting sanctions on Syria will allow its citizens to take charge of the country\u2019s reconstruction process.<\/p>\n
Annika Clasen-Edris, Spokesperson for the German Foreign Office for the Middle East and North Africa, said in a televised interview with Al Arabiya Al Hadath<\/em> that Germany is committed to supporting Syria\u2019s transformation. She highlighted Germany\u2019s pledge at the Brussels Conference on Syria, where it committed \u20ac300 million to assist Syrians.<\/p>\n Edris expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached with the European Union to lift all previous economic sanctions, while clarifying that Germany will maintain security-related sanctions. She noted that restrictions will remain in place against individuals associated with the former regime and Syria\u2019s chemical weapons program.<\/p>\n She described Syria\u2019s political transition following years of dictatorship and conflict as a historic opportunity and a significant challenge.
