{"id":36502,"date":"2015-04-17T13:56:31","date_gmt":"2015-04-17T10:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/?p=36502"},"modified":"2015-04-19T12:20:17","modified_gmt":"2015-04-19T09:20:17","slug":"shahba-theatre-a-beautiful-exemplar-of-small-size-historical-theaters-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/?p=36502","title":{"rendered":"Shahba Theatre\u2026 a beautiful exemplar of small size historical theaters in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sweida, SANA &#8211; Shahba city in Sweida, 90 km south\u00a0of the capital Damascus, is endowed with a<br \/>\nvariety of archeological monuments that stand as\u00a0witness to an ancient civilization.<\/p>\n<p>What, however, stands as a special landmark in\u00a0this ancient Roman city that was built by Emperor<br \/>\nPhilip the Arab between 244 and 249 Ad, is\u00a0Shahba Theater.<\/p>\n<p>Located in a huge architectural compound at the\u00a0center of the city, the theater is considered one<br \/>\nof the most important archaeological monuments\u00a0in the city and a beautiful exemplar of small-<br \/>\nsize historical theaters in Syria.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/shahba1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-36505 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/shahba1-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"shahba1\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/shahba1-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/shahba1-150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/shahba1.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With a diameter of 24 meters, the theater was\u00a0first unearthed by the second half of the 20th \u00a0century. It has two parts; the first is for\u00a0acting, while the second is for audience, according to Director of Sweida Antiquities\u00a0Department Hussein Zein Eddin.<\/p>\n<p>He told SANA that the acting part consists of a\u00a0spacious separate stage with a straight facade\u00a0covering the backstage standing behind it\u00a0that has three entrances, the biggest of which<br \/>\nlies at its center.<\/p>\n<p>The coulisse can be seen as a corridor extending\u00a0along the stage, which has two entrances at its<br \/>\nboth sides, Zein Eddin added.<\/p>\n<p>The audience part, he explained, consists of two-story amphitheater heading southward that can be<br \/>\nreached through passages and hallways,noting that there are also seven entrances that<br \/>\nare consistent with the internal hallway and\u00a0stairs.<\/p>\n<p>Reem\/H.Said<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Sweida, SANA &#8211; Shahba city in Sweida, 90 km south\u00a0of the capital Damascus, is endowed with a variety of archeological monuments that stand as\u00a0witness to an ancient civilization.
