Riyadh, SANA \u2013 The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities\u2019 approval of new settlement construction around occupied Jerusalem, along with statements by the Israeli Foreign Minister rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as a \u201cflagrant violation of international law\u201d and an infringement on the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establish an independent, sovereign state. The Kingdom said the decision also contravenes relevant UN Security Council resolutions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese decisions and statements are a continuation of the illegal expansionist policies of the Israeli government, obstructing the peace option and posing a serious threat to the possibility of a two-state solution,\u201d the statement read. Saudi Arabia urged the international community to meet its legal and moral obligations to protect the Palestinian people, recognize the Palestinian state, and compel Israel to cease its aggression against Gaza, halt violations in the occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem, and stop crimes amounting to genocide.<\/p>\n
The Kingdom reaffirmed its rejection of Israeli policies based on settlement expansion, forced displacement, and the denial of Palestinian rights. It called on the international community\u2014especially permanent members of the UN Security Council\u2014to take immediate measures to stop Israeli crimes in occupied Palestinian territories and ensure compliance with international law.<\/p>\n
Earlier Friday, the Israeli Finance Minister announced the launch of a settlement plan to link Ma\u2019ale Adumim settlement to occupied Jerusalem after more than 20 years of delay, involving the confiscation of thousands of dunams and the investment of billions of dollars to bring one million Israeli settlers into the West Bank.<\/p>\n
