New York, SANA The crisis in Syria and the\u00a0preparations for Geneva3 Conference were discussed\u00a0during a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister\u00a0Mohammad Javad Zarif and UN Special Envoy to Syria\u00a0Staffan de Mistura on the sidelines of the Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference currently\u00a0held in New York.<\/p>\n
Describing his meeting with Zarif as constructive\u00a0and positive, De Mistura said that he directed an\u00a0official invitation to Iran to participate in\u00a0Geneva 3 Conference on the crisis in Syria,\u00a0asserting that ignoring Iran’s role in solving the\u00a0crisis in Syria is a big mistake.<\/p>\n
De Mistura criticized the non-cooperation of some\u00a0regional and non-regional countries in the\u00a0framework of his mission on the crisis in Syria.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister\u00a0expressed concern over the negative role of some\u00a0countries in deepening the crisis in Syria,\u00a0showing Iran’s readiness to support de Mistura’s\u00a0efforts for finding a political solution and\u00a0restoring stability and calm to Syria.<\/p>\n
During his meeting with de Misutra in Geneva last\u00a0January, Zarif called on the main international\u00a0players to constructively cooperate in finding a\u00a0peaceful and political solution to the crisis in\u00a0Syria.<\/p>\n
Two United Nations-backed international peace\u00a0conferences were held on the crisis on Syria in\u00a0the Swiss city of Geneva.<\/p>\n
Geneva I Conference was held in June 2012,\u00a0initiated by then UN peace envoy to Syria Kofi\u00a0Annan, while the Geneva II Conference on Syria\u00a0took place in January 2014.<\/p>\n
