Damascus, SANA \u2013 Under the patronage of President Bashar al-Assad, The Interior Ministry on Friday celebrated the 70th anniversary of Law Enforcement Day, which is observed on May 29th, marking the day when Syrian officers tasked with protecting the parliament were killed at the hands of the French occupation forces in 1945.<\/p>\n

In a speech on this occasion at the Ministry, Interior Minister General Mohammad al-Shaar conveyed the thanks and appreciation of President al-Assad to law-enforcement personnel for the efforts and sacrifices they exert to defend the country alongside the soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army.<\/p>\n

He recalled the sacrifices made by the law enforcement forces that were protecting the Syrian parliament on May 29th 1945, when 28 out of the 30 members of the force were killed and their bodies were mutilated and burned at the hand of the French.<\/p>\n

A number of relatives of the 1945 martyrs and of the current crisis\u2019 martyrs were honored during the event before al-Shaar inaugurated a museum at the Ministry documenting the sacrifices made by members of the law enforcement forces.<\/p>\n

Activities were also held on this occasion by police departments in Tartous, Sweida, Hasaka, Lattakia, Aleppo, and Homs provinces.<\/p>\n
