Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly approved on Thursday the bill of the internal trade and consumer protection law.<\/p>\n

The law aims at tightening penalties and fines imposed on offenders who manipulate prices and monopolize commodities to come to appropriately controlling the markets.<\/p>\n

The law compels owners of commercial, industrial and service businesses to announce the prices of commodities and goods and commit to the rules of supply and demand and legal competition.<\/p>\n

According to the law, an imprisonment sentence of no less than six months and\/or a fine of SYP 250.000 will be imposed for adulterated human and animal food and agricultural crops put up for sale.<\/p>\n

The Assembly also endorsed a draft law on exempting the industrialists and craftsmen in the industrial cities with expired building permits from the fees imposed for renewing the permits.<\/p>\n
