Damascus, SANA The Office for the Coordination\u00a0of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Syrian\u00a0Arab Red Crescent (SARC) organized an\u00a0activity at the Opera House in Damascus on \u00a0occasion of World Humanitarian Day, which is
\nmarked on August 19.<\/p>\n
The event, held in cooperation with a number of\u00a0humanitarian organizations in Syria, includes a\u00a0photo exhibition showcasing the\u00a0delivery of humanitarian aid during the crisis in \u00a0Syria, in addition to two theatrical performances
\non women issues related to the crisis.<\/p>\n
Resident UN Coordinator Jacob el-Helo lauded the\u00a0efforts, bravery, and sacrifices of humanitarian\u00a0workers in Syria, noting that 78\u00a0humanitarian workers have been lost since the \u00a0beginning of the crisis, including 48 SARC
\nworkers.<\/p>\n
For his part, Chairman of the SARC Abdelrahman al-\u00a0Attar said that the organization will continue\u00a0its humanitarian efforts which it has\u00a0been carrying it out since the beginning of the\u00a0crisis in cooperation with international
\norganizations and local civil societies.<\/p>\n
A charity bazaar featuring homemade handicrafts\u00a0and food made by Syrian women and families of\u00a0martyrs, and displaced people was held on the\u00a0sideline of the event, with the participation of\u00a0several local societies and the
\nUNRWA’s Social Development Center.<\/p>\n
August 19 was chosen to mark World Humanitarian\u00a0Day to commemorate the day in 2003 when 22 UN\u00a0workers were killed in a bombing in Baghdad.<\/p>\n
