{"id":52640,"date":"2015-08-26T13:01:03","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T10:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sana.sy\/en\/?p=52640"},"modified":"2023-01-08T17:13:30","modified_gmt":"2023-01-08T15:13:30","slug":"syria-voices-deep-outrage-over-isis-crimes-in-palmyra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.sana.sy\/en\/?p=52640","title":{"rendered":"Syria voices deep outrage over ISIS crimes in Palmyra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Damascus, SANA \u2013 Syria expressed deep outrage over the destruction of Palmyra&#8217;s Baalshamin<br \/>\nTemple and the killing of archeologist Khaled al-Asaad by the Islamic State in Iraq and<br \/>\nSyria (ISIS).<\/p>\n<p>Last Sunday, ISIS, which overran Tadmur city and the historical Palmyra site in May, blew up<br \/>\nBaalshamin Temple by a large amount of explosives, only few days after it brutally beheaded<br \/>\nand crucified the prominent archeologist al-Asaad.<\/p>\n<p>An official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry condemned on Wednesday ISIS<br \/>\ncrimes and attacks committed against the Syrian cultural heritage, describing them as<br \/>\n&#8220;barbaric&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>These crimes, the source said, again make it evident that ISIS targets the &#8220;Syrian identity<br \/>\nand national memory&#8221; and the Syrians&#8217; contributions to the human civilization.<\/p>\n<p>They also show the obscurantist nature of this terrorist organization that is stripped of<br \/>\nany civilization value, the source added.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry&#8217;s source blamed ISIS crimes on the countries in the region and the world who<br \/>\nhave failed to abide by the Security Council&#8217;s counterterrorism resolutions, particularly<br \/>\nresolution no. 2199 that stipulates for protecting the archeological ruins in Syria and<br \/>\nIraq.<\/p>\n<p>It is this failure that has emboldened ISIS and other terrorist organizations to persist in<br \/>\ncommitting crimes against cultural heritage in the two countries, the source said.<\/p>\n<p>As it expressed the Syrian people&#8217;s pride in the cultural achievements they contributed to<br \/>\nthe humanity, the source stressed that the Syrians are now more determined than any time<br \/>\nbefore to defend these achievements.<\/p>\n<p>The Syrian people, the source said, call on people of conscience in the world to come<br \/>\ntogether to preserve this cultural heritage that is the property of the entire humanity and<br \/>\nwork for combating terrorism that has turned into a serious threat to regional and<br \/>\ninternational peace and stability and the whole human heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Haifa Said<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Damascus, SANA \u2013 Syria expressed deep outrage over the destruction of Palmyra&#8217;s Baalshamin Temple and the killing of archeologist Khaled al-Asaad by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
