Rome, SANA- The Director General of Antiquities and Museums Diectorate Dr.Maamoun Abdul -Karim presented \u00a0Thursday before the Cultural and Foreign Affairs’ Committee of the Italian Parliament an expanded review on the danger threatening the artificial and archaeological heritage in Syria in light of the terrorist organizations’ current\u00a0threats.<\/p>\n
Abdul-Karim called for concentrated efforts between Italy and Syria to coordinate in the field of revealing the antiquities dealers and returning the stolen antiquities.<\/p>\n
He focused on the role played by the Antiquities and Museums Directorate, the Syrian Arab Army and government in securing great archaeological treasures and moving them to Damascus.<\/p>\n
Abdul-Karim denounced the international silence on the damage and destruction left by ISIS terrorists in Palmyra city which represents the importance of the Syrian antiquities for the world civilization.
\nThe Director General indicated the criminal acts of which terrorists perpetrated in Palmyra including the murder of Archeology professor Khaled Assad.<\/p>\n
Abdula-Karim is in Rome for the meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly “Union for Mediterranean” whose cultural committee is scheduled to hold its meeting at the Italian Italian parliament Saturday.
\nThe Committee aims to enhance cultural and civil communications and dialogue among the civil society establishments and to raise the standard of living in the Mediterranean countries.
