Rome, Italy, SANA- Participants in a conference in\u00a0Rome, stressed the importance of restoring\u00a0diplomatic relations between Syria and
\nItaly to contribute to supporting the peaceful\u00a0solution to the crisis in Syria and to\u00a0take a clear stance towards terrorism and the\u00a0countries which support it, particularly\u00a0in light of the huge threats facing Europe.<\/p>\n
The conference, held at one of the chambers of the\u00a0Italian Parliament in Rome, was organized by the\u00a0Italian-\u00a0Arab Friendship Center under the title “Saving\u00a0Syria\u2026Eliminating Terrorism\u2026What is the\u00a0Role of Italy?”<\/p>\n
Director of the Syrian Television & Radio General\u00a0Production Company Diana Jabbour, speaking at the\u00a0conference, referred to the\u00a0systematic media war launched against Syria\u00a0throughout the years of the crisis.<\/p>\n
“According to us as Syrians, we have only two\u00a0choices, either Syria will remain an independent\u00a0secular democratic state or it will\u00a0become a center for attracting terrorists from\u00a0all parts of the world,” Jabbour\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
She called for restoring diplomatic relations with\u00a0Syria, re-opening the embassies in the two\u00a0countries and lifting the sanctions\u00a0imposed on the Syrian people.<\/p>\n
For his part, Former Syrian Ambassador to Italy\u00a0Samir al-Qasir said that the cold war hasn’t\u00a0finished yet, but it continued secretly,\u00a0adding that Saudi Arabia is igniting the\u00a0situations in Syria to achieve its own\u00a0interests.<\/p>\n
He called upon Italy, “whose relations with Syria\u00a0have always been good”, to play an effective and\u00a0serious role at the international\u00a0community to restore the stability to the Middle\u00a0East, and respect the international\u00a0law, the legitimacy of the Syrian state, and the\u00a0right of the Syrian people to\u00a0choose their future through helping the Syrians\u00a0in countering terrorist organizations, in\u00a0reconstruction and in protecting the Syrian\u00a0cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
Head of the Italian-Arab Friendship Center\u00a0condemned the European contradicted stance towards the crisis in Syria and the biased stances\u00a0and double standards of the European countries\u00a0which are trying to impose\u00a0solutions that serve their own interests at the\u00a0expense of the democratic bases and the\u00a0interests of the Syrian people and their right to\u00a0choose their destiny.<\/p>\n
He described the stances of the European\u00a0governments as “political hypocrisy”, particularly\u00a0with regard to the issue of the war\u00a0against terrorism which is threatening their\u00a0security today despite of their
\nstrong ties with countries that directly support\u00a0terrorism.<\/p>\n
