Damascus\/Tartous, SANA-\u00a0Syria’s Grand Mufti Ahmad Badr-Eddin Hassoun called on the Western countries to wake up from their lethargy and break their silence on the terrorist war waged on Syria.<\/p>\n

He was speaking during a meeting with\u00a0 members of the\u00a0International Peace Activists group delegation in Damascus on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The recent terrorist attacks in Paris, Hassoun said, should be a warning alarm for the West to caution it that terrorism, which has been harbored by its countries, could well backfire on its sponsors.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments)\u00a0Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed stressed that\u00a0Islam is innocent of all crimes\u00a0committed by terrorists whom they attribute to in\u00a0order to harm the Christian-Islamic coexistence in\u00a0Syria.<\/p>\n

“Islam is the religion of amity, coexistence and\u00a0peace,” al-Sayyed said during a meeting on Friday with Melkite\u00a0Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and All the\u00a0East Gregarious III Laham and the peace activists delegation in Tartous.<\/p>\n

He affirmed that the reason behind targeting Syria\u00a0is harming the supreme meanings of amity and\u00a0coexistence between Islam and Christianity Syria\u00a0has lived throughout history.<\/p>\n

The Minister appreciated the visit of World Peace\u00a0delegation, saying it shows the world’s solidarity\u00a0and sympathy with Syria towards events taking\u00a0place in it and presents a massage of love to the\u00a0Syrian people and the Syrian Arab army.<\/p>\n

Patriarch Laham, in turn, stressed the importance\u00a0of enhancing the values of amity, peace,\u00a0citizenship and reconciliation against extremism,\u00a0violence, terror, killing and destruction.<\/p>\n

For her part, chairwoman of the delegation and\u00a0Nobel-Peace-Prize winner Mairead Maguire said that\u00a0the visit expresses the delegation’s rejection of\u00a0the Takfiri terrorism against the Syrian people,\u00a0calling for unifying the peace-making efforts and\u00a0spreading the culture of tolerance.<\/p>\n

Chairwoman of Mar Jacob Monastery,\u00a0Mother Fadia al-Laham said that the delegation’s visit is a message for the whole world showing\u00a0support to the Syrian people, asserting that the\u00a0delegation will visit a number of Syrian\u00a0provinces.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the delegation visited Virgin Mary Mosque\u00a0in the city, where patriarch Laham called upon all\u00a0the Syrian people, Islam or Christians, to work\u00a0together for modern Syria.<\/p>\n
