Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry’s\u00a0spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized on Friday\u00a0the United States’ stance on “the Syrian\u00a0opposition delegation” to Geneva peace talks,\u00a0based on Riyadh Conference, saying it contradicts\u00a0the UNSC resolution No. 2254.<\/p>\n
Zakharova was commenting on statements by\u00a0Spokesman of the US Department of State Mark\u00a0Toner, who claimed that the representative group\u00a0of the opposition brought by Riyadh conference\u00a0last December is legitimate and represents the
\nnegotiators of the Syrian opposition.”<\/p>\n
“The US stance on the Syrian opposition delegation\u00a0contradicts what has been agreed upon during the\u00a0meeting of the International Syria Support Group\u00a0(ISSG) and then supported by a unanimously\u00a0accepted UN Security Council resolution adopted on
\nDecember 18, 2015,” Zakharova added.<\/p>\n
She said that the Syrian settlement basic document\u00a0made it clear that in order to have a\u00a0comprehensive opposition delegation, it should\u00a0take into account the meetings which were held in\u00a0Moscow, Cairo and Riyadh as well as other similar\u00a0initiatives.”<\/p>\n
In a relevant context, Russian President’s special\u00a0envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov\u00a0said earlier that the Syrian opposition should not\u00a0put preconditions that could obstruct the inter-Syrian talks scheduled in Geneva, asserting that\u00a0the Syrian opposition will bear a historic\u00a0responsibility if it hinders the talks.<\/p>\n
