Moscow, SANA- Russian Permanent Representative to\u00a0the United Nations Vitaly Churkin asserted that\u00a0the close Russia-US interaction at various levels –\u00a0political, diplomatic and military is the\u00a0backbone of the efforts exerted to settle the\u00a0crisis in Syria.<\/p>\n
“The fact that the Americans, especially Pentagon\u00a0representatives, are underestimating it may\u00a0probably mean that they are still at a loss over\u00a0Russia’s energetic actions in the Syrian track “,\u00a0Churkin said in an interview with the Izvestia\u00a0daily on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Churkin noted that Moscow positively assesses the\u00a0activities of United Nations Secretary General’s\u00a0Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.<\/p>\n
“He succeeded in establishing a certain exchange\u00a0of opinions between the Syrian government\u00a0delegation and the opposition during the first\u00a0round of dialogue which yielded a document that\u00a0can be used to try to find common ground and\u00a0continue the dialogue process,” Churkin said.<\/p>\n
He added “Currently, de Mistura’s activities have\u00a0bigger international support than before, so, his\u00a0efforts have more chances to be crowned by\u00a0favorable results.”<\/p>\n
Churkin expressed regret that Western members of\u00a0the United Nations Security Council are unwilling\u00a0to exert influence on Turkey which is\u00a0categorically against the participation of the\u00a0Kurds in the intra-Syrian dialogue.<\/p>\n
