Damascus, SANA – Activities of the cultural\u00a0festival “An Eye on the Levant Mosques…Capitals\u00a0of Civilization;\u00a0Damascus, al-Quds and Aleppo” kicked off on Monday\u00a0commemorating the 47th anniversary of the burning\u00a0of al-Aqsa Mosque on August 21, 1969.<\/p>\n

It also marked the global week of mosques,\u00a0celebrated annually on August 21st.<\/p>\n

Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad\u00a0Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed stressed that the Syrian\u00a0people, rallying\u00a0around their army and leadership, are making
\nvictories over the Takfiri and extremist\u00a0terrorists.<\/p>\n

“The takfiris will never succeed to divert the\u00a0message of the mosques of the Levant away from\u00a0spreading the right\u00a0meaning of Islam,” said al-Sayyed, adding that
\nonce victory is achieved, the “one Syrian family”\u00a0will work together to restore all the mosques, churches and places\u00a0of worship that were damaged due to the\u00a0terrorists’ acts.<\/p>\n

Mufti of Damascus Abd al-Fattah al-Buzem reminded\u00a0that all the religious messages call for the\u00a0building of the\u00a0human being and for dialogue and peace.<\/p>\n

Syriac Orthodox Patriarchal Vicar for Antioch and\u00a0All the East Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury pointed\u00a0out that the\u00a0Syriacs have lived together with the Muslims in
\ngood times and difficult times, stressing that\u00a0national unity will not be affected by pressure.<\/p>\n

Al-Khoury referred to the role which the Syriacs\u00a0in Syria played in building mosques because they\u00a0have realized the important role of mosques as a source of knowledge
\nand culture just like the churches.<\/p>\n

On the 47th anniversary of burning al-Aqsa Mosque,\u00a0“we should emphasize that al-Quds city is the most\u00a0sacred place\u00a0to Christians, and without it history would be
\nincomplete,” he said.<\/p>\n

The festival, which was organized by the Ministry\u00a0of Awqaf in cooperation with al-Fatah Islamic\u00a0Complex, the Awqaf\u00a0departments of Damascus and Aleppo and Noor Al-
\nSham satellite channel, will run through next\u00a0Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The activities of the festival will be held in\u00a0Damascus, Aleppo and Tartous.<\/p>\n
