Damascus, SANA \u2013 In 2011, a United Nations resolution established 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC), a day designated for promoting the rights of girls and addressing the unique challenges they face.<\/p>\n
The theme for this year\u2019s International Day of the Girl Child, \u201cGirls\u2019 Progress = Goals\u2019 Progress: A Global Girl Data Movement\u201d, is a call for action for increased investment in collecting and analyzing girl-focused, girl-relevant and sex-disaggregated data.
\nExecutive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), Babatunde Osotimehin, stressed the importance of this year\u2019s theme in paying more attention to the needs, problems and challenges which face every girl though conducting studies and researches and collecting data which enable shape policies and initiatives that positively affect the lives of millions of girls around the world.<\/p>\n
He noted that the new State of World Population report, to be launched by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, later this month, examines how the support we provide to adolescent girls today will determine our collective well-being tomorrow.<\/p>\n
