Commission of Inquiry on Syria welcomes establishment of transitional justice and missing persons authorities

New York, SANA -The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria has welcomed the formation of the National Authority for Transitional Justice and the National Authority for Missing Persons in Syria, emphasizing that this marks a fundamental step towards uncovering the truth.

In a post on its official account on Platform X, the UN-affiliated authority stated: “The Independent International Commission of Inquiry views the establishment of the new national authorities for missing persons and transitional justice in Syria as a crucial step toward revealing the truth about the missing and the grave violations committed in Syria.”

The commission added that it “looks forward to contributing to achieving justice, redress, and ensuring non-repetition for all victims.”

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria was established by the United Nations on August 22, 2011, pursuant to a resolution of the Human Rights Council (Resolution 1/17-S).
