UN: Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Now ‘Beyond Catastrophic’

Geneva, SANA- The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned Tuesday that humanitarian conditions in Gaza have deteriorated beyond catastrophic levels amid ongoing Israeli military operations and a deepening hunger crisis.

According to UN News, OCHA reported a rising number of daily fatalities, including deaths linked to starvation many among children. Despite the efforts of over 80 community kitchens operating in northern and southern Gaza, the 380,000 meals prepared daily fall far short of meeting the needs of the population.

OCHA emphasized that Israeli authorities continue to obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid and essential supplies to the most vulnerable, exacerbating the already dire conditions.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric called for full and safe access for humanitarian workers through all crossings, noting that half of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents are children.

He also voiced alarm over expanded Israeli operations in Gaza City, warning of another wave of mass displacement toward already overcrowded and under-resourced areas in the south.

The UN reiterated its opposition to forced displacement and affirmed its commitment to providing aid to civilians wherever they are.
