Damascus, SANA – Syrian Civil Defense announced on Saturday that its firefighting teams, supported by local residents and forest brigades, have succeeded in halting the spread of wildfires in the Latakia and Hama countrysides on all fronts.
The Civil Defense explained on its Telegram channel that teams are currently tackling remaining hotspots and continuing extinguishing and cooling operations, while maintaining a presence in affected areas to prevent any flare-ups. It noted, however, that the fires cannot yet be declared fully extinguished due to the risk of renewed outbreaks caused by strong winds.
According to the statement, more than 70 teams—including 50 firefighting units, 20 forestry brigades, and engineering crews—participated in the operations, equipped with fire trucks, water tankers, and heavy machinery to open fire lines and access roads. Reinforcements also arrived from Homs, Aleppo, Idlib, Damascus, Rural Damascus, and Daraa to support local teams.
