Agriculture Ministry, GIZ discuss development of agricultural sector in Syria

Damascus-SANA – Dr. Amjad Badr, Minister of Agriculture, has met with a delegation from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to discuss ways to develop Syria’s agricultural sector and address its critical needs.

During the meeting held Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters, Minister Badr outlined the various challenges facing the agricultural sector, including fodder shortages, rising prices, and the necessity of finding alternatives due to drought and damage to rain-fed crops.

He also highlighted the importance of focusing on and expanding the adoption of modern irrigation systems and securing agricultural production inputs.

For their part, the GIZ delegation affirmed their agency’s readiness to assist with seed production, in line with international standards, as well as with water resource management and supporting farmers.
