Minister Al-Shaibani discusses with European Delegation latest developments and repercussions of fires in Syria

Damascus, SANA-Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, received on Tuesday a delegation of the European Union ambassadors,  headed by the EU Chargé d’Affaires in Damascus, Michael Ohnmacht.

The two sides discussed several issues, most notably the repercussions of the wave of wildfires that hit some Syrian regions, and the mechanism for providing technical and humanitarian support to help confront these disasters and ease their impact on the population and the environment.

Minister Al-Shaibani stressed the importance of international solidarity in confronting climate change and natural disasters that pose threat to environmental and economic security in the region.

The meeting also addressed other main issues, including extending an official invitation to the Syrian side to visit Brussels and continue political dialogue, the importance of activating Syria’s role within the Union for the Mediterranean, and supporting regional development programs.

Viewpoints were also exchanged on the recent European Union Council conclusions on Syria.
