More than 7,000 evacuated amid heavy rainfall in southwest China

Beijing, SANA-Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 7,000 people as heavy rain continues to batter the mountainous city of Zhaotong in southwest China’s Yunnan Province.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted local sources as saying that sustained heavy were swept away houses in Luobu Township, Weixin Count in the province leaving five people missing.  Zhaotong authorities have launched all-out rescue and disaster relief efforts — evacuating over 7,000 people to safety.

Sustained heavy downpours have battered large parts of Zhaotong since Tuesday morning, wreaking havoc in several counties under the city’s administration.
