Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon calls for calm in Sweida

Beirut, SANA- The Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon expressed Monday deep concern over the events that have occurred in Sweida Governorate, calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further bloodshed.

The Lebanese party affirmed in a statement quoted by the Lebanese National News Agency, its absolute rejection of all calls for international protection from any party, stressing that providing security and protection is only the Syrian state’s responsibility

The party indicated that it is seeking, through the necessary contacts with relevant parties, to end tensions, emphasizing the need to reach a peaceful solution under the auspices of the Syrian state, ensuring stability, security, and civil peace on all Syrian territories, with the participation of all components of the Syrian people.

Sweida has seen clashes between local military groups and clans in in al-Maqous neighborhood, which left dozens of deaths and injuries. As a result, units of the Syrian Arab Army and Internal Security Forces were deployed to the affected areas to stop clashes and protect civilians and property.
