Deaths and injuries in Massachusetts assisted living facility fire, USA

Washington, SANA -Nine people were killed and at least 30 injured in a massive fire that broke out at a nursing home in Fall River, Massachusetts, on Monday.

The Washington Post quoted local authorities as saying that firefighters responded to a fire that broke out at the Gabriel House nursing home in Fall River, where about 70 elderly residents reside, amid thick smoke and flames while residents were trapped inside. The newspaper explained that “the fire resulted in the deaths of nine residents of the home.”

Authorities added that firefighters were able to rescue a number of residents and transport them to hospitals for treatment, some of whom were in critical condition. They noted that five firefighters were injured.

The investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the fire.
