Pedersen calls on Israel to stop its violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

New York, SANA-UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen condemned the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, including the airstrikes on central Damascus, which killed three people, injured 34, and caused extensive property damage.

In a statement published by his office on his website, Pedersen urged “Israel to immediately cease all violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and refrain from taking unilateral measures that exacerbate the conflict.”

Pedersen renewed his call to the Syrian government and all relevant Syrian parties to continue building a foundation of political consensus that can serve as a factor of stability and represent the country’s unity and diversity, with all its components, and to refrain from any action that would jeopardize these goals.

Regarding the situation in Sweida, Pedersen reiterated the UN Secretary-General’s call for an immediate de-escalation, protection of civilians, restoration of calm, and a return to dialogue.

He also called for a transparent and public investigation and for those responsible for violations to be held accountable.
