Washington, SANA – Despite the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement that de-escalated the conflict in Syria, there is growing concern within the White House about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his regional policies, Axios reported, citing U.S. officials.
The site said in a report “As smoke and debris billowed over the presidential palace in Syria, talk that Benjamin Netanyahu is out of control intensified”.
According to the report, several high-ranking US officials complained directly to Trump about Netanyahu’s actions, noting that these officials included US Ambassador to Turkey Thomas Barrack and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, close friends of President Trump, the report added: “Countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia have sent angry messages to the Trump administration about Israel’s moves.”
One White House official told Axios “He’s acting like a madman, bombing everything all the time, and it’s undermining everything Trump is trying to do.”
Another official said “skepticism is growing within the Trump administration toward Netanyahu, as there is a sense that he is causing too much disruption. A third official said also that “Washington has previously warned that Trump’s goodwill toward Netanyahu could run out”.
Another US official told Axious : “The bombing in Syria has taken the president and the White House by surprise. Trump doesn’t like to watch TV and see bombs fall in a country where he seeks peace and has announced a huge plan to help rebuild it.”
Axios noted that Trump has not publicly criticized Netanyahu so far, and it is unclear whether Trump shares his advisers’ recent frustrations.
