New York, SANA-UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned opening fire on the Palestinians, who were trying to gain food for their families, by Israeli occupation forces, killing and wounding a number of them.
“It is imperative to protect the civilians and never targeting them” Guterres was quoted by UN News Center as saying in a statement, stressing that people in Gaza are still suffering from severe lack of basic necessities.
Secretary-General expressed deep concern about increasing reports on children and adults suffering from malnutrition, as he also underscored that Israel must commit to allowing and facilitating the access of humanitarian relief provided by UN and other humanitarian organizations to people of Gaza.
He added that UN staff are still in Deir al-Balah city, noting that two UN buildings were shelled there, despite that they must not be violated.
Guterres reiterated urgent call for protection of civilians, including humanitarian workers, saying that the UN is in fully readiness to significantly continue its humanitarian operations.
