Beijing, SANA-The China Disabled Persons’ Federation has announced that the enrollment rate of children and adolescents with disabilities in compulsory education has reached 97%, with over 30,000 students with disabilities entering universities every year.
According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the federation’s president, Cheng Kai, stated at a press conference today that the country’s education system for people with disabilities has seen notable improvement. He explained that currently, about 75,800 students with disabilities are enrolled in vocational secondary schools across China, while another 59,800-attend regular high schools.
For her part, the Federation’s Vice President, Li Dongmei, noted that China has taken several measures to facilitate access to education for these students, including launching a special campaign to provide schools with assistive devices, which has benefited approximately 100,000 students with disabilities. Standardized textbooks have also been developed for private schools, as well as sign language textbooks for nine subjects.
