Qatar condemns Israeli attacks on Syria

The Hague, SANA- Qatar strongly condemned on Wednesday the policies and violations committed by Israel, including its repeated attacks on Syrian territory, asserting that such actions constitute a breach of international law.

During a session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Qatar’s representative to the organization, Mutlaq bin Majid al-Qahtani, described these attacks as a serious threat to regional and international peace and security, and a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, particularly Article 2 of the Charter, which prohibits the use or threat of force against the unity and territorial integrity of states, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Al-Qahtani pointed out that Israel is obligated to refrain from any action that would obstruct the achievement of the objectives and purposes of the Chemical Weapons Convention, based on Article 18 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, stressing that “any violation of the fundamental objectives of the Convention constitutes a legal violation for which Israel bears responsibility.”

He called for a clear condemnation of these actions and for the international community to take all necessary measures to halt them, protect Syria’s sovereignty, and safeguard the ongoing verification and dismantling process under the auspices of the agreement.

He also requested consideration of deploying a “technical field mission” to assess affected sites, in order to document the damage, determine its impact on the organisation’s operations and the safety of its experts, and establish a factual basis for accountability in accordance with international law.
