Brussels, SANA- The European Union (EU) called for respecting the ceasefire agreement in Sweida province, ensuring the safety of civilians regardless of their ethnic or religious background, protecting civilian infrastructure, including religious sites, and taking immediate steps to prevent any sectarian incitement or rhetoric.
A statement issued on Thursday by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on behalf of the Council of the European Union, published on its website, said: “The European Union urges all external actors, without exception, to fully respect the unity, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Syria, and condemns any unilateral foreign military action or presence, as well as any attempt to undermine Syria’s stability and the prospects for a peaceful transition, including through information manipulation and foreign interference.”
The European Union condemned the violence that claimed hundreds of lives last week in southern Syria and demanded a transparent and credible investigation and accountability for all those responsible.
The European Union urged its partners to provide essential humanitarian assistance to southern Syria amid the ongoing emergency and urged all parties to ensure urgent and safe humanitarian access and the protection of humanitarian personnel.
