UN delegation inspects shelters in Bousra al-Sham and promises to step up humanitarian aid

Daraa, SANA- A United Nations delegation conducted an inspection visit on Sunday to several shelters in Bousra al-Sham city and nearby towns, in southern Daraa province, where they met with families displaced by the recent events that shook the region.

During the visit, the delegation reviewed the dire humanitarian situation and heard the affected families’ needs and demands, amid ongoing local efforts to mitigate the impact of the crisis.

Nassar al-Tabishi, Director of Busra al-Sham District, briefed the delegation on the overall situation of the centers, highlighting the urgent need to increase relief supplies, particularly health, food, and hygiene supplies, to prevent diseases from spreading, while appreciating the vital role played by the local community in the district.

Al-Tabishi also highlighted the fundamental role of the local community, which has taken on the task of providing daily breakfast and lunch to the displaced.

Shortage of basic supplies and a backup plan:

Al-Tabishi highlighted the shortage of basic supplies, which increases the families’ suffering in the centers.

He emphasized the need to develop an alternative plan to establish a special camp in case the crisis continues.

Regarding the situation of the Druze arrivals inside the centers, Al-Tabishi explained that only four families remain in Busra, while the return of the others to Sweida and Jaramana in Damascus countryside has been secured according to their wishes.

Field health follow-up:

For his part, the head of the health region, Dr. Yahya al-Ali, affirmed that ongoing monitoring and care health efforts are underway across nine health centers and Bosra National Hospital, to provide immediate medications for chronic diseases.
UN promises to provide support and overcome obstacles

Members of the UN delegation expressed their readiness and willingness to provide all necessary facilities, in coordination with key humanitarian actors, to overcome current obstacles and ensure the rapid delivery of aid to those in need.
