Amer Al-Sheikh, one of the most dangerous drug smugglers arrested

Damascus, SANA- Anti-Narcotics Directorate announced Sunday the arrest of Amer Jdei’ al-Sheikh, one of the most dangerous individuals involved in drug smuggling networks in Syria and the region.

Head of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, Brigadier General Khaled Eid said, “Our specialized teams arrested Amer Jdei’ al-Sheikh, one of the most dangerous individuals involved in drug smuggling networks in Syria and the region.”

“The arrested individual was traveling using forged IDs and passports in an attempt to evade security pursuit. He was tracked until he eventually entered Turkish territories where he was arrested by Turkish authorities in coordination with Syrian counterparts and was handed over to the Syrian Anti-Narcotics Directorate” he added.

Brigadier General Eid said that Amer Jdei’al-Sheikh, “is considered one of the region’s most prominent drug traffickers and smugglers, and is wanted for many countries for his serious and organized crimes related to the manufacture and smuggling of narcotics.”

The officer clarified that “Information also reveals his close ties to international smuggling networks and influential figures, most notably the criminal Maher al-Assad” adding that he was responsible for “overseeing the manufacture and smuggling of narcotics to neighboring countries and beyond.”
