Geneva, SANA-The United Nations Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territory expressed profound shock and outrage over the continued killing of emergency workers in Gaza Strip.
The UN News Center quoted the office as saying in a statement: On 3August, the Israeli military struck a Palestinian Red Crescent Society facility, in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, resulting in the death of one staff member and injuries to three others.
The statement noted that since the beginning of the offensive, 49 Red Crescent staff members have been killed, in addition to 136 members of the Civil Defense.
The office emphasized that these workers continue to engage in life-saving efforts putting their own lives at risk, and stressed the importance of conducting independent investigations into all instances of civilian deaths.
It further asserted that the intentional killing of humanitarian workers may amount to war crimes.
Meanwhile, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described the targeting of the Red Crescent headquarters in Khan Younis by Israeli military as “horrific” in a post on the platform X.
Ghebreyesus reiterated his call to halt the targeting of health and humanitarian workers, demanding an “immediate ceasefire in Gaza.”
